We take our ESG responsibilities seriously and our board takes a hands-on-approach to decision-making in this area. This robust governance is crucial to our ambition of being a sustainable business, both in terms of our long-term growth and our environmental footprint.
Office, field, and site, we consistently take actions that are designed to keep our environmental and social impacts to a minimum. Internally, we are currently working towards ISO 14001 accreditation as part of efforts to drive continuous improvements in our environmental management practices. Our people are key to these efforts, and we aim to foster an inclusive, diverse and supportive workplace culture where employees know their voices are heard.
From suppliers to partners, we have an expectation that the businesses we work with are aligned to our ESG values. As well as an appreciation for 'big picture' values such as integrity, accountability and respect, that translates into a ground-level drive for sustainability in terms of the responsible use of resources and the avoidance of unnecessary waste.
Ultimately, we believe in thinking and acting through an ESG lens, ensuring Acumen makes a positive contribution while helping our sector build towards a more positive future

Embedding sustainability
We are committed to embrace sustainable principles when managing repairs on behalf of our clients and their customers. When designing repair schedules, our surveyors will always aim to adopt measures that will have the minimum environmental impact while satisfying the requirements of the work at hand.
This includes:
- Employing natural drying methods for water damage claims.
- Limiting strip out where we believe materials will dry without secondary damage.
- Restoring and repairing as many damaged items as possible.
- Using verified sustainable materials in repairs wherever possible.
- Retaining oversight of repair decisions to control the repair design process.

Acting on climate change
As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 impacts,
we have:
- Installed solar panels to reduce energy consumption from external sources.
- Switched to 100% of electricity for our service centre coming from renewable, REGO-regulated sources.
- Saved energy consumption through low energy LED lighting.
- Set a target for office recycling of 90%.
- Supported employees with cycle storage, showers and EV charging for sustainable commutes.

Building stronger communities
Making changes that are felt by individuals and have the potential to resonate more widely:
- Supporting our employees with flexible working and pay rise to help with the cost-of-living crisis.
- Providing employment opportunities for young people from our local community, giving them skills and opportunities to progress in their careers and give back to their own local communities.
